Thanks for all the very helpful, insightful feedback, Bob! Another alternative to Rails that I suggest in the Next Steps section is Sinatra, a much lighter weight Ruby-based web framework. But I chose to use Rails due to its popularity and the amount of documentation available for platform, so that if readers wanted to further extend the application, there were plenty of resources to call upon to do so.
